Some personal thoughts on marriage #marryME

Two thoughts as I listen to the testimony on LD 1020.

1) While I know that my marriage is work, the testimony from same-sex couples about how hard they are willing to work - and how hard they have worked - to solidify their relationships in the eyes of the law, is truly humbling and makes me think that no matter how hard days have been in my relationship with my wife, I am deeply grateful that I never had to fight bureaucracies and engage lawyers the way they have. I don't wish that sort of battle on anyone, and indeed I wish that others would not have to face such obstacles to solidify their personal choices.

2) I don't think we should govern by what it says in the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, the Book of Mormon, the teachings of the Buddha, those of Bahá'u'lláh, or any other religion. I think we should govern by what it says in the Constitution. If they happen to align or agree, that's much more of an accident or coincidence than intent by the Deist founding fathers to enshrine the word of the divine in law.
