Called out by Tom Friedman

In today's NYT:

"And then there is We the People. Attention all young Americans: your climate future is being decided right now in the cloakrooms of the Capitol, where the coal lobby holds huge sway. You want to make a difference? Then get out of Facebook and into somebody’s face. Get a million people on the Washington Mall calling for a price on carbon. That will get the Senate’s attention. Play hardball or don’t play at all."

Sure go ahead and play hardball, but don't complain when your electricity bill doubles next year (hint: that's what we use coal for). Of course, Tom Friedman won't mind because he's married to a shopping mall heiress.

With a little thought it is easy to cut your electric bill.  Be aware of what is turned on and turn it off.  You can cut your usage by 35% with a little thought and effort.  With a little sacrifice you can cut it 50%.

Most consumers have not really looked at how much electricity they are using.  It is not hard to reduce your bill by 30% by just being aware and turning stuff off and/or unplugging stuff not in active use.  You can reduce it even more with a little sacrifice.
