Healthcare - is Snowe starting to get it?

Senator Olympia Snowe, whom I said a couple of weeks ago appeared to be failing to understand the point of healthcare reform, is showing a small sign she might be starting to get it.

A Friday story in the Bangor Daily News has her supporting what she calls a "safety net plan," a public option that would compete with private insurance from the very beginning (without any sort of delay allowing the private companies to again prove they won't fix the problem themselves). This "safety net" would only be available if private companies didn't meet certain price criteria - so it might at least offer some downward pressure on insurance prices in all states.

And over the weekend, Snowe apparently told a healthcare rally that the time has come for the government to step in and require guaranteed acceptance for all Americans who apply for health insurance, as well as no price differentials based on pre-existing conditions or other factors, such as gender.

Call her office - all the info's in this post - and tell her what you think. Now's the time.
