One week left...

With one week left before Election Day on Tuesday, November 3 (HOW is it almost November?), activists on all sides are pulling out their last-minute strategies. And local media outlets are overflowing with opinions too. (You can see our election coverage in this week's issue.)

At 10 a.m. tomorrow, Governor John Baldacci will speak in Bangor in favor of gay marriage and against ballot question #1. Meanwhile, an op-ed in today's Portland Press Herald, claims that voting Yes on One would make it more difficult to recruit highly educated workers (specifically, physicians) to Maine. The piece has garnered close to 400 comments on the PPH's Web site (all of them stunning for their insight and what they add to the conversation, of course). There's a forum on Question on on WCHS-6 tonight at 7 pm.

Two days after the Bangor Daily News published an editorial advising its readers to vote against Question 5, which would establish marijuana dispensaries and facilitate the (already legal) use of medical marijuana in Maine, that newspaper published an op-ed by the widow of a man for whom pot was a palliative in a 10-and-a-half-year fight against cancer.

And the pro-TABOR folks must have been thrilled to get Wall Street Journal coverage/support over the weekend.

ps on politics -- Hear some experts on whether or not Portland should have a elected mayor tonight.
