Cognitavely dissonant tidbit of the day

From the CNN Political Ticker's report that former Hillary Clinton backer Lynn Forester de Rothschild now supports John McCain:

In an interview with CNN this summer, Forester did not hide her distaste for eventual Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don't like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”

Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.

Elitism: whatever you want it to be!

Afraid of the black, with good reason: Dr King didn't die so white and black could drink from the same fountain; he died so there could be a black president--and black justice.

I think a lot of even well-meaning white people don't get how difficult it is to trust that white officials will deliver justice to blacks.  Sometimes what is passed off as acceptance of blacks and black interests is merely superficial, temporary tolerance.  Obama's point that we can all succeed and that our success does not have to be at one another's expense I find refreshing.  Such an attitude may help us out of racially divisive attitudes and behaviors.  I would hope it would help quell white fears, for instance.

OK, CC.  Maybe it wasn't the exact tenor of his epochal sacrifice, but don't you think it was his dream?

King dreamed that his children, as well as our children, would "one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." We should all strive for that.
