Preemptively coping with an Obama defeat

For months now, my colleague David Bernstein has been assuring me that Barack Obama's going to win the presidency by a wide margin tomorrow. But no matter what he says--and despite how promising the polls currently look--I can't help expecting the worst.

Sound familiar? If so, please join me in a little exercise. First, ask yourself: What's the best possible spin that could be put on an Obama loss? And then post your answer here!

I've got a short list going myself. Here's what I've come up with:

1) John McCain must have another reasonably healthy decade in him. After all, he's got good genes.

2) Assuming he does, by the time Sarah Palin could actually run for president herself, she'll have said and done so much stupid shit that she won't stand a chance.

3) If Obama runs again, the attacks that worked this time (narcissist, friend of terrorists, Black Stalin, presidential Jay Gatsby) won't have any "oomph."

 Like I said, it's a short list.

 Suggestions?

The bright side is the McCain would be a far better president. Also, I don't understand how people feel that Obama being President is any better the slight chance that Palin may become President if something happened to McCain. After all, she is no less experienced than Obama...and at least she wouldn't tax us to death.

Thanks for your comment, Rob, but this is the rare DQM post where I'm looking for one end of the ideological spectrum. (As for Palin, it's not her inexperience that worries me; it's her anti-intellectualism, xenophobia, and neo-McCarthyism, all of which get presented with a wink and a smile. But we can debate that later.)

I give McCain another few years before he rolls over and moves leaving Palin in charge (if they win). Wow, then we are all screwed.

    4) Think about how bad-ass Obama's post-defeat Gore hibernation beard will be.

That someone with more experience and common sense will be running the country?

Someone who knows right from wrong...and is a better judge of character will be running the country?

It will be a sign that our enemies won't fuck with us because McCain is in office?
