Uh-Oh

I'm sure this won't sit well with the "all's fair in love, war, and domestic spying" crowd, but the L.A. Times has another terrific story indicating that our phony payola journalism scam in Iraq appears to violate Pentagon policy.

Well, that scandal really got a lot of traction, didn't it, Mark? And how about the NSA spying story? Huh? Its amazing how you in the media just. don't. get. it. The American public approves of the use of covert propaganda to sway Iraqi public opinion (it worked in the Cold War), and it wants the President to listen in on Al Qaeda phone calls because it understands something you don't. We're at war. So I'll simply state (again) that everytime you make a big deal out of this, it will come back to bite you in the ass. And I'll ask you again: could be ever so possible that you (in the media) are wrong and the public is right? History will be the judge the mark, and I'll remind you that journalism is the first rough draft of history. Lots of corrections to be made - just as they were made when Truman left office (enormously unpopular from journalistic attacks) and Reagan's tenure (compare the fawning the tributes to Reagan at his funeral with coverage during his terms... What changed? His policies proved liberating to about 400 million people, andhe was vindicated by history. You were probably marching against "Ronald Ray-Gun" at the Nuclear Freeze rallies back in 1981...)

Yeah, right, "Bake," the public is really thrilled with the Bush presidency (42 percent approval rating) and just love the war in Iraq. And we sure do want the president to break the law when it's, wel, inconvenient for him. You just "get it" so well, how all that annoying constitutional checks and balances stuff is just kind of a suggestion to George and friends. I have a suggestion, Bake: send the NSA your phone numbers -- cell included -- so they can listen in on you. Consider it your brave contribution to the war on terror.
