In this week's Phoenix, I argue that we in the media need to get over our squeamishness when it comes to outing public figures as gay--or, at the very least, that we need to think through the issue a lot more thoroughly.

Excellent piece. Perhaps while we are examining "politicization of sexuality" we can also look at sexualizing of politics? I'm sure glad the members of the Globe editorial board take great pains to give readers the same picture of their own private lives that they expect from others in the public eye. It is a tribute to Ryan-Vollmar that she can find subjects that the Globe has not already treated comprehensively. Perhaps she can be among the first to examine childless straight couples, who may well outnumber gay couples with children; Joe Moakley, Speaker John McCormack, et al. Or is that too declasse'?
