ALS fundraiser in Marcella's memory this Friday

Laz Pujol, a friend of Tony Marcella, the well-known Rhode Island political operative who passed away in March, sends along the following:

Anthony C. Marcella III, political consultant and former Chief of Staff to Congressman Patrick Kennedy who passed away in March from ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), will be honored at a fundraiser for ALS on Friday, May 16, from 8pm to 12am, at the Ocean Cliff Resort, 65 Ridge Road, Newport, Rhode Island.

Mr. Marcella had previously served as a staff member to Senator Edward Kennedy, Chief of Staff to Rhode Island Congressman, Patrick Kennedy, and was a behind-the-scenes power in Rhode Island and national politics. He recently served as a consultant to The Carnegie Abbey Club and as a political advisor and campaign manager to several noted R.I. politicians, most recently to North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi. Tony was a familiar figure in the political corridors of both Providence and Washington, D.C., creating events and drawing luminaries such as actor John Malkovich, singer Tony Bennet, American Alpine skier Bode Miller, Former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, along with recent presidential candidates Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Senator John Edwards to Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch said, “Tony Marcella’s keen political instincts and insight never failed to inspire and impress everyone who was privileged to work with him or to call him a friend. Although we continue to mourn the loss of a gifted and spirited man who spent far too few years on this earth, Tony’s many outstanding contributions endure.” ....

Tickets for the fundraiser are $25 with advance reservation, $40 at the door. The evening will include an open bar, hors D’ouerves, live music, DJ, and a silent auction. The event is being underwritten courtesy of developer Tom Roos thereby allowing all proceeds to benefit The Tony Marcella ALS Foundation. Please RSVP to TonyNewportCelebration@yahoo.com, or call 917.548.3795. Please include your name, phone number, and number of guests.
