Panel to consider reviving public transit

With RIPTA users bracing for cuts, and Rhode Island falling far short of its potential as a place with cool public transit, a broad selection of interested parties are getting together tomorrow to discuss the issue.

From Chris Wilhite at the Sierra Club:

Providence, RI] Tomorrow the New Public Transit Alliance will host a special summit on financing public transit in Rhode Island. This timely event will bring together key civic, business and political leaders to get input on structuring mass transit funding in a way that allows it to grow with demand and evolve into a first-class, multi-modal transit system for Rhode Island.  Speakers include Governor Donald Carcieri, Scott Wolf, Executive Director of Grow Smart Rhode Island, Al Moscola, General Manager of RIPTA, Chris Wilhite, Chapter Director for the Sierra Club of Rhode Island, and Steve Durkee, Principal Architect for Durkee Brown Viveiros Werenfels.

What: Financing Transit Summit

Where: Bank of America conference facility

            One Financial Plaza, 7th floor

            Providence

When: Tuesday, September 23rd, 8:00 – 11:30 a.m.
