The Dems Gear Up for 2010

New issue on the stands today and I've got a piece on the burgeoning Democratic gubernatorial primary. Treasurer Frank T. Caprio is piling up cash, Attorney General Patrck C. Lynch is eager to tout an underappreciated record and Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts is counting on heavy support from women voters.

It seems that looking out at recent media coverage, a common theme is beginning to emerge surrounding Caprio's candidacy that is focused almost solely on his unprecedented fundraising. Yes, Caprio is piling up the cash, but he's also been piling up quite a record.

Aside from being the most high-profile treasurer in recent memory, let's not forget his decision to divest from Darfur, invest in technology in order to increase transparency, and the 16-year voting record he accrued while representing one of the most diverse sections of Providence.

But maybe his record and the fact that he's raising so much money so early on, aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, I'd argue that one has a lot to do with the other.
