Even the Brits Are Piling On Lil' Rhody

We've had The New York Times, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post pronounce on our economic failures. And now the tsk-tsk has gone international.

A new story in The Economist, the British magazine, is sounding off on our "labour" problems, noting how many "hectares" of land will open up in Providence's "Jewellry District" when the old I-195 comes down and quoting our local doomsayers, including Leonard Lardaro of the University of Rhode Island.

But Rhody may be poised for a recovery, the piece concludes:

The state may have hit bottom already. Unemployment remained steady from February to March. As Mr Lardaro dryly notes, “We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s hope it’s not a train.” If things don’t look up, the state may reconsider a 1971 proposal to impose a $2 levy on each act of sexual intercourse performed in the state. Only men would pay.
