Mp3 exclusive: Uncle Monsterface

Singing and dancing sock puppets, cartoons, inflatable lobsters, underground mutant prairie dogs from hell — expect the works this Sunday, June 4 at UNCLE MONSTERFACE's afternoon, all-ages  “extravaganzathonarama” at the Middle East for their self-released debut full-length, letter green (i love you), a 25-minute synth-rock acid trip that you and your kid nephew alike will freak out to. If you haven't already acquainted yourself with the huuuuge tour diary they did for us when they were out with Harry and the Potters — our favorite online publishing event ever, featuring loads of photos, a 12-episode video blog, and a newly-created song for every day of the tour — GET FAMILIAR. On Friday, the Potterface connection returns: the Potters are back (albeit without the Harry costumes) in the guise of the DEGEORGE BROTHERS CONCEPTUAL VARIETY SHOW, and the opening acts include the Monsterface folk-covers band FARTS IN THE FIELD. Not to be missed. [CLICK HERE FOR SHOW DETAILS.] Weirder than TMBG and less sinister than Miss Pussycat, the Monsterface dudes are about as close to the early magic of Henson (not Hanson: HENSON) as you're likely to come across in these parts -- at least for a little while longer, since they're moving to NYC. Before they depart, they wanted us to give you this going-away gift: their crowd-favorite "Chocula (You're Never Safe)." Boasting clattering electronic dance breaks, Casio synths, and a hysterical cereal enthusiast who rears between operatic ecstasy and paranoid screaming, this is the dadaist fake-children's-music anthem you've been dreaming about.

If you take yourself too seriously to fall in love with this band, seek help.
