Deer Tick put on a good show, but having them play in town so close on the heels of the recent Lucero show (over at the Paradise) allowed us to make some comparisons - which generally favored Lucero's brand of southern-influenced country indie.

There's no doubting the fact, however, that while entertaining, Jenny Lewis spent most of the night getting upstaged. (Boy do we miss Rilo Kiley!) When it wasn't supporting act Deer Tick, it was her own guitarist... We would have loved to see raunchy guitar player Johnathan Rice step up and start singing one of his own songs. Prior to last night's performance with Lewis, the last time he was in Boston was when his band opening for Rilo Kiley at the Avalon.
