Instant Analysis of Today's GOP and Democratic Results: Bad Night for Frontrunners: Obama Sweeps the Evening -- Adding to Momentum; Huckabee Upsets McCain

As expected, Barack Obama is headed to big caucus victories in Nebraska and Washington and a primary win in Louisiana -- continuing his momentum and further reducing the narrow delegate lead of Hillary Clinton. On Tuesday, there's a chance he will go into the delegate lead for the first time -- which would be hugely significant, at least psychologically.
Meanwhile, for the GOP, Mike Huckabee has upset John McCain in Kansas (though we did note below it was quite possible) --  and looks like he could win Louisiana and even Washington. It shows that Huckabee -- a candidate with real grassroots support --  has the potential to cause McCain a lot of headaches, even if he's still the longest of long shots.

Mike Huckabee is now the "anti-McCain."  With Mitt Romney having "suspended" his campaign, John McCain has emerged  as the front runner and is considered the inevitable nominee.  Front runners discover that options emerge for the disaffected and that's what Huckabee has become.  Comparing McCain's present situation to Hillary Clinton's, Mike Huckabee is to John McCain as Barack Obama is to Hillary Clinton.  Huckabee, like Barack, is a relatively late and surprising starter who initially wasn't given much chance for success.  Huckabee began by representing one voting group - the evangelical Christians.  Obama began by representing one voting group - persons of color. Obama's support base has since dramatically expanded. Huckabee's may now expand as he (not Ron Paul) is the viable option to his party's presumed nominee. McCain now has to deal with carping critics about his "inevitability" being challenged by someone resembling an upstart, much like Hillary has had to defend her "inevitability" against Barack. Ron Paul's Democratic opposite number is Mike Gravel, who's still an active candidate.  Always drive with a spare tire. Going into the Way Back Machine, the year 2000 finds another upstart - Sen. John McCain of Arizona - daring to challenge the GOP establishment's choice, Gov. George W. Bush of Texas.  McCain now finds himself as a member of the GOP establishment.  He now has to come up with policies and programs.  Lot easier being an outsider and an outspoken critic, wasn't it, John?
