Palin Draws An Astounding 37.2 Million and Knocks Them Out

     The numbers are in from last night and, in addition to the rave reviews, Sarah Palin drew a TV audience of over 37 million -- only a million less than Barack Obama a week before.

      Expect three ramifications:

      -- Expect the courageous-as-always media to, by and large, back off its criticism of Palin, afraid of making the backlash that is forming in response to the feeding frenzy that followed her selection worse;

     --  Expect Palin to continue her excoriating attacks on Obama. It's clear, at least initially, that she can get away with saying some negative things that a man couidn't, and

    -- Expect Palin to continue to overshadow the top of ticket for awhile. That's the danger for John McCain in all of this. But it's a risk he'll gladly run.

    McCain and Palin seem to have a good cop/bad cop thing going, judging by tonight's acceptance speech by McCain.  By the way, notice they played Heart's "Barracuda" afterward? Know where the guitar riff in that song comes from? Led Zeppelin's "Achilles' Last Stand"!

    Palin's most effective comments were in reference to her being a friend and advocate in the White House for the parents of children with special needs.  A concern that cuts across racial, social, economic and religious lines. Also, her and her husband having to deal with a daughter's teen-age pregnancy is a situation that may be found in families in cities, small towns, farming and rural areas throughout the land. Further, she's far more independent politically and personally than Hillary.  As has been noted, she - - unlike Hillary - - is not tethered to her husband for her own political advancement. Todd and Sarah's marriage is an alliance of inter-dependence.  In terms of her independence, self-reliance and self-supporting skills, she may well be "Hillary, The Next Generation."
