A reporter for WickedLocal made the exact same mistake last year when tabulating the warchests of the candidates for Councilor-at-Large:

It meant that the story was wayyyyy wrong on who had the most money available.

The reporter was mad when he read that story, but dropped the issue when I pointed out to him that the OCPF has, on their website, a step-by-step description of how to figure out the amount of money a candidate has -- and it explained the thing about annual reporting of money market / savings accounts.

Some reporters should read the FAQ first!
