DJ Verbatum actually asked me if he couldn't just abdicate his win, and give someone else the plaque. He said he'd prefer second place. So you see, DJ Verbatum isn't your average Portland musician. When he got up on stage to accept the award, we could all see the class act that his fans see, and hear in his Southern-tinged voice the excited rhythms they have danced to every Friday and every Saturday for the past four years. He announced that he was not the best DJ in Portland, shouted out three others he said were better, and gave second-place Graymatter a handshake and a hug.
