So, was this the year everything came together for Jason Spooner? For a guy toiling in the club-trenches for years, a little success must taste nice. Spooner’s Flame You Follow, released last summer, has received the recognition it deserved, with a “Black and Blue” single that’s been spun on radio stations across the country, and seems to continue to build momentum. Dude’s humble, too. In announcing a win of the International Finals of the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest at South Street Seaport in NYC, we’re told, “Jason was selected as one of five lucky co-winners.” Nah. Luck don’t get you shit — but talent and hard work can take you far. Like the people in the Talking Heads cover Spooner knocked out of the park, success can be slippery in today’s music biz, so there’s no telling where Spooner and his band might be headed, but he has a firm grasp on a ream of possibilities.
