The seven-piece Latin dance band — and three-time Bimpy winners in this category — Grupo Esperanza have entertained dancers and audiences all over Maine for several years now. Like the clave, the heartbeat of much of Latin and Afro-Cuban music, el Grupo move in tight circles, but roll forward at the same time. Intrigued? You should be. There is no simple explanation of this dizzying, intoxicating motion, which breeds similar exuberance in the dancers. After taking a short break to recharge and retool, Grupo Esperanza are back in time for summer, when the sweat at their shows seems particularly sweet.
