Considering the dire subject matter of boom, this is a cheerfully optimistic play. Note that there is no exclamation point after the title; though the predicted devastation does come about, complete with sound and physical special effects, this is all about life rather than death. Each character proceeds with urgency, whether their concerns are monumental or silly. However entertainingly it is presented, we are pressed to consider that our piscene forebearers, so long, long ago, took charge of their destiny with spunk and determination as well as admirably muscular fins. Downright inspirational.
If the end of the world were coming, what would you do? That's not a trick question, actually. Odds are, your world will come to an end after some threescore years and 10, if not sooner, so how you spend your time amounts to that very question. An answer that includes attending theater this skilled and heartwarming would not be a trivial response.
