Richard is aided in his various bloody plots by his cousin Buckingham (Joe Mecca), promising him land and wealth upon obtaining the throne. But there are some steps Buckingham won't take, such as killing the princes, so he falls out of favor, his loyalty still not paid for, and eventually collaborates against Richard when he is the king. Another head rolls.

Although he has made enough alliances among the lords to be crowned, King Richard has his wife, Lady Anne, poisoned in order to marry his young niece, the offstage Elizabeth of York, the daughter of the former queen, Elizabeth (Rosanna Cavanaugh). The nuptials are forestalled — Richard isn't the only one up to trickery — and she is betrothed to the Earl of Richmond (Rob Roy), who will become King Henry VII, and who defeats King Richard in that fateful battle.

Got all that? Whew. And we thought our politics was busy.
