Bonner's "Pooms" — his term for single-syllable words that he turns into a punning sound poetry — are dorky cerebral goofs. A series of letterpress prints makes concrete poetry of simple words — mud, bee, do, pig. In "Mom," for example, the arms of the Ms stretch and cradle an O between them. Chocolate and shortbread cookies are each molded with a single word — lip, teeth, tongue, throat — referencing eating. A red baseball cap has the word "moot" embroidered across the front — a non sequitur, or maybe a comment on the wearer's thoughts. I'm allergic to this sort of whimsical wordplay — I break out in irritation. But Bonner has been involved in enough interesting things that here I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
