jazz composers alliance orchestra

Bandguide Member

Summary: The Jazz Composers' Alliance (JCA) was founded in 1985 to support, develop and promote the art of music composition in the jazz idiom. To do so, we founded the JCA Orchestra (and the JCA Sax Quartet) and have been putting on concerts for 24 years. We've put out seven CD's (and have just recorded another), have premiered well over a hundred compositions (who knows, maybe doulbe that) and have had an illustrious series of guest performers who have included Julius Hemphill, Henry Threadgill, Sam Rivers, Oliver Lake, Dave Holland, Steve Lacy, Maria Shneider and many others. The JCA Orchestra features some of Bostons's best and most adventerous jazz musicians, including Jim Hobbs, Phil Scarff, Rebecca Shrimpton, David Harris and Bill Lowe. Are concerts are creative, exciting, colorful and unique. Our focus ranges from through composed extened works, to collective improvisation, to world music, to spoken word and improvisation, and anything else that may come along.

No Upcoming Shows Scheduled.

Boston's Jazz Composers Alliance is fearless about subject matter — this, after all, is the organization that gave us The Death of Simone Weil as an "improvisational cantata."
