ROBOT: Peter Crouch celebrates the only way he knows how
The official Britpop anthem
English rockers Embrace were tapped by England’s Football Association to write and record the nation’s official theme for the World Cup. With lyrics like “We’ll never lose if we keep moving forward and don’t look back,” it’s a treacly, mewling Britpop tune in line with the likes of Travis and Keane. But, uh-oh! Despite their efforts on behalf of the home team, Embrace have been unable to acquire tickets for any of England’s games. What more do they have to do?

The US rap song
United States midfielder Clint “Deuce” Dempsey has released a song of his own via Nike Soccer. A rap song, no less. But don’t get all “Super Bowl Shuffle” on him yet. To his credit, “Don’t Tread on This” is a far better song than one would expect from a white soccer player. This is due to the steadying influence of the late John “Big Hawk” Hawkins, a Houston-based rapper who was gunned down on May 1. Although Big Hawk’s death puts a damper on the unintentional comedy of the whole thing, hearing Dempsey rap about the money he’s made playing soccer vaults “Don’t Tread on This” to that rarefied air occupied by “Must Be the Money” and “Shaq-Fu.”

When Valve announced a full-priced sequel to Left 4 Dead only one year after the original, 40,000 frustrated gamers joined an on-line boycott. The boycotters had a point, but they'll miss out if they stand on principle.

You're standing in an elevator with men wearing bulletproof vests and wielding machine guns. "No Russian," the leader reminds you, as the doors open to reveal a line of persons waiting at the airport security gate.

Nathan Drake walks like a man. Not so much in a macho, John Wayne kind of way — though there is plenty of that in him — but as if he were a real person occupying physical space.
