The T annoys you? Be glad you’ve got a rail at all. Not like, say, the 12,000 or so residents of Four Corners (96 percent black and/or Hispanic), for whom it takes as long as an hour to make it three miles downtown by bus.
Shopping in Boston not enjoyable? Try it with security guards tailing you and clerks ignoring you. Public spaces not beautiful enough? Take a walk through neglected Franklin Park.
To Mayor Menino’s credit, the neighborhoods of Black Boston are far more pleasant and developed than they were 15 years ago, and improvements are being made all the time. But it’s not just the physical spaces that make the black experience in Boston different. It’s a sense that they are not welcome in the other Boston, and that makes everything in Bad Boston a little worse.
