TheANTI family reflects a shared generational sensibility that the New York Times Magazine has described as a movement away from corporate America and nine-to-five desk jobs, toward more artistic, self-motivated pursuits. They’re “making statements against the materialistic mainstream,” said the Times this past summer, “but doing it with different forms of materialism. . . . they see products and brands as viable forms of creative expression.” Which about sums up theANTI vision.
LaCouture and Stiles’s dream, they say, is to open a store, where costumers can select designs and colors, and then watch theANTI crew custom print the shirts. Until that happens, says Stiles, “I just want to be able to wake up and be like ‘What do I want to do?’ and do it, you know what I mean?”
