Less than $2.50: a ride on the subway
Okay, so when you say you’re broke, you mean you’re really broke. Tapped out. Flat as a traffic cop’s feet. Negative cash flow. Totally brizoke. Don’t worry about it! For a paltry one-time fee of $1.25, you can make your own fun in abundance. The T may not be perfect, but it is rather far-reaching. Ever taken the Blue Line to Revere Beach? Take a walk along the shoreline sans summertime crowds. Kelly’s Roast Beef is worth the ride alone.
Alternatively, you can take the Silver Line to the courthouse or the Red Line to South Station and walk around Fort Point Channel for the day. Fort Point who, you might ask? It’s only the next up-and-coming neighborhood in Boston. Peppered with funky galleries and some great shops, this relatively undiscovered area is also the perfect spot for a walk along the harbor on a sunny day.
Now, if you’re really hard up for cash and want a fun day trip, get thee to an aboveground T stop along the D Line. From there, your outbound journey is completely free! Hop off at Newton Centre and play suburbanite for a day, popping into all the adorable shops, cute coffeehouses, and church yard sales. Or grab a good (or bad) novel and cozy up in the Newton Free Library, a perfectly lovely way to spend a chilly afternoon.
