Sincerity matters

Dr. Lovemonkey gives advice to those having relationship woes
By RUDY CHEEKS  |  February 23, 2006

Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
I recently started dating this great guy. He is 14 years older than me, but I like older men, so the age thing is really not a problem. I do have one concern, however, that is sort of gnawing away at me. He has never been married and has no kids, but he told me on our first date that he’s at a point where he wants to get married. Is he telling me this to prove that he’s ready for a commitment, or is it just a line? And does he really believe that telling me he’s ready to get married will make me sleep with him any faster?
_Smitten But Skeptical

Dear Smitten,
Based on what you’ve told me, I can’t really tell you what he’s thinking or feeling. It would not be strange or unusual for an older man who has never been married to, after giving it a lot of thought, decide he would like to have a family. At the same time, it is not unknown for men to use any line necessary to get into a woman’s pants. Whether his intentions are sincere will become evident soon enough. In the meantime, since he is a “great guy,” enjoy his company and don’t worry so much.

A fellatio alger story
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
My girl wants me to kiss her right after she’s done going down on me, but I don’t want to. She says if I won’t kiss her afterwards, she won’t do it anymore. What should I do?
_Ronnie

Dear Ronnie,
You should make a decision. You’ve got two choices and they appear quite clear. You can stop being such a wuss and start kissing your girlfriend after fellatio sessions, or you can do without blowjobs. Actually, this question would be better posed to someone who is more knowledgeable about the related etiquette, like Monica Lewinsky.

The aging process
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
I am dating a 26-year-old guy. He genuinely cares about me, and vice versa.  I’m having doubts, however, about whether this relationship can go for the long haul because he’s four years younger than I am. Will you give me your honest opinion about whether you think this is an issue? When I’m 32, he’ll be 28. When I’m 40, he’ll be 36. Am I making too much of a big deal? Thanks.
_E. From Warwick

Dear E,
Everyone is different. Some men have a real problem getting involved with women who have children from a previous relationship. To some, it’s not an issue at all. Some men will only go out with thin women. Some men are attracted to women with overbites. There are also those attracted to people of the same sex and those attracted to both. Honestly though, four years does not seem to be a major age difference. This is no “May/December romance,” but more of a “May/July” deal. I don’t think this is a problem.

Take a walk
Dear Dr. Lovemonkey,
My boyfriend was seeing an older woman for money. He promised he was not seeing her any more, but I just found out that he still was. I have obtained her phone number, but do not want to call her. I only want to get him on the phone and let him know that he has been caught, and he’s got to make the choice — her or me. We live together. What should I do and how should I approach him?
_J.W.

Dear J.W.,
Just boot him out. Seeing an older woman for money, you say? While living with you? That’s scum of the earth behavior. I don’t understand why you gave him a second chance.
