Last hurrahs
Wrap up an exhaustive week of merrymaking by summoning your energy for one last shindig. Well, okay, four last shindigs. Boston Pride Week officially closes on Sunday, June 15, with a big finale at Roxy (279 Tremont Street, Boston, 617.338.7699), but leading up to the final party are three other slammin' soirées — June 12 at Estate (One Boylston Place, Boston, 617.351.7000), June 13 at Machine (1256 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.536.1950), and June 14 at Roxy. It's a long goodbye with a killer lineup, collectively featuring the fabulous RICHIE LADUE, AMANDA LEPORE, HECTOR FONSECA, JUNIOR VASQUEZ, CHRIS COX, and DEENA CUCCI, all presented by producer and promoter extraordinaire CHRIS HARRIS.
For all the flack that Boston takes about its semi-Puritanical ways, the city, like its urban brethren Cambridge, etc., is relatively progressive and continues to make strides for the LGBT community. True, we have a long way to go until we reach complete and total gender and orientation equality, but with a rich tapestry of gay and civil-rights organizations, a progressive LGBT population, and a thriving annual pride celebration that continues to grow by leaps and bounds, Boston is getting there, one parade at a time. Boston Pride Week 2008 is open to all, and all should be open to experiencing all it has to offer.
