This, the latest movie from “the creative mind of talented filmmaker Luc Besson” (press notes courtesy of the publicist), screened for critics last month, in the usual way. But then, just before it was due to open, the publicist announced that the screening print had been deemed not final, and that a revised version would open in theaters. In theory, this potentially brilliant replacement might redress the horrid voice-casting choices of Robert De Niro, Emilio Estevez, Jimmy Fallon, and Madonna, whose performances indicate they never saw any script pages other than their own. In theory, this “dazzling new combination of live-action and groundbreaking CGI technology” that finds young Arthur (Finding Neverland’s talented Freddie Highmore) joining forces with a microscopic race of uninspired children’s-book refugees in his quest to save the family farm might even dazzle. More likely, though, it’ll remain as invisible as the print I saw.
