Daddy Day Camp
Predictability ensues

DADDY DAY CAMP
0.5
Stars
VIDEO: Watch the trailer for
Daddy Day Camp
.
Because even Eddie Murphy had better things to do, Cuba Gooding Jr. stars in this mess of a sequel directed by Fred Savage (Kevin from
The Wonder Years
!). For reasons too inane to detail, the men of
Daddy Day Care
open a summer camp and must face off against their rivals at the fancier camp next door in order to . . . something. Predictability ensues, with the requisite skunk and poison-ivy scares, outdoorsy high jinks, and foreclosure threats from the meanies at the bank. Poorly staged, acted, and edited,
Daddy Day Camp
plays like a particularly inept episode of
Gilligan’s Island
, with more fart jokes. It all comes down to the “Olympiad,” a battle of idiotic proportions between the two camps, and if you can’t guess what happens next, this just may be the movie for you.

Review: Imagine That
Eddie Murphy proves he doesn't need a fat suit to play soft in Karey Kirkpatrick's surprisingly nuanced family comedy.
'Tis the season
Yeah, yeah, summer . Go outside, hone your tan, toss a Frisbee, blah blah blah.
Meet Dave
Murphy gives it his best shot, but the humorless script and the overuse of funhouse FX by director Brian Robbins implode Dave on the launch pad.

Fractured fairy tales
Times are tough when the Dream Factory has a better grip on what’s going on than the people in Washington.
33. Tyler Perry
Sir, please step away from the fat suit. If the world wanted an endless barrage of grossly stereotypical black characters passing gas on one another, it would have given Eddie Murphy an Oscar.

New to DVD on January 17, 2006
With the possible exception of the days of Soviet Social Realism, people have gone to the movies to escape the daily grind, not relive it.

Although her film has as much visual flair as an after-school special, director Patricia Rozema gives an appealing attention to period detail, and Breslin is sweet in her first starring role.
REPRISE
| May 21, 2008
Trier captures the moment when the recklessness of youth gives way to adult responsibilities, and the way childhood friendships can fall apart when different paths are taken.
