Dan in Real Life

From comedy to crap

VIDEO: Watch the trailer for Dan in Real Life.

What’s wrong with Steve Carrell? His is one of the quickest falls from comedy to crap since Chevy Chase. After his tour de force in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and a performance that’s the best thing in Little Miss Sunshine, there was Evan Almighty. Now we get this noisome bonbon. Carrell’s Dan is a widower and the writer of a family-advice column who, wouldn’t you know it, can’t control his own family! His daughters are spoiled brats who treat him like shit! But that’s just the beginning of the hilarity. During a family gathering where his parents and siblings treat him like shit, Dan escapes and meets Marie (Juliette Binoche, what’s your excuse?) and they fall in love. Wouldn’t you know it, she’s dating his boorish brother, who’s played by Dane Cook no less! Sheesh! And if you think that’s as much fun and misogyny as you can stand, wait till you see who ends up in the car with the bimbo! Steve Carrell — they’re treating you like shit.
