Review: Next Day Air

It's all fun and games until everyone's shoving guns in each other's faces. And then it isn't much fun at all.

VIDEO: The trailer for Next Day Air

Benny Boom has made mostly rap videos. Here, armed with first-time screenwriter Blair Cobbs's lightweight script, he makes, in effect, another. The dialogue is so forgettable and the plot so predictable, he should have eliminated the chatter, edited the whole thing down to four minutes, and let Mos Def lay down some beats and cut loose, instead of consigning him to a pointless cameo.

Wood Harris, so supremely menacing as Avon Barksdale in The Wire, plays Guch, a hood so boneheaded, he and his equally brain-dead sidekick Brody (Mike Epps) rob a bank but forget to take the money. Their luck seems to have changed when pothead deliveryman Leo (Donald Faison) leaves a carton of cocaine at their door that was intended for drug dealer Jesus (Cisco Reyes) down the hall. It's all fun and games until everyone's shoving guns in each other's faces. And then it isn't much fun at all.
