Review: Warren Miller's Dynasty

Nothing but fluff for the franchise

There’s really nothing but fluff to a Warren Miller ski flick, and by that I mean billows of powder as well as a lack of substance. Not that substance has ever been an issue. The featured skiers, who plunge down perilous ravines to the pulse-pumping soundtrack, are a breed apart, fearless and seemingly locked into a state of permanent nirvana — but just how many death-defying stunts can one behold before they become repetitious?

Quite a few, it would seem, for with Dynasty the franchise turns 60. Miller himself is now pretty much involved in name only; the experience has morphed into a jazzed-up travelogue.

This time out, that includes a trek to China, where locals out-skoosh the pros on pine and horsehair skids. But it’s the live gator, lashed to a snowboard, high up in the snowy white, that still has me scratching my head.
