Back in Boston, from 1988 to 1989, DJ 12 B-Down Mike Dee, independent and estranged from Guru, teams up with local MCs Smitty and King Shab (later known as Sandro Castro) to form Gang Starr Posse. Though they never achieve the fame that Guru finds in New York, Gang Starr Posse tours the East Coast extensively and releases several singles on B Down Records.
