Boston music news for the week of January 13, 2006

Crooner FRANK PINO, of would-be arena-rockers WALTHAM, has a reputation for holding down a stage and making the ladies swoon. Now he’s sharing the secrets of his suavity with a lucky contestant on MTV’s reality show Made. The episode, in which Pino helps a member of a high-school marching band in Bow, New Hampshire, to become a rock star, will air on Monday January 23 at 4:30 pm. "It ended up being more about showing someone how to speak their mind and go after what they want, regardless of what anybody has to say about it," Pino said through band manager Laurie Gail of the band’s management company. Look for a new limited-edition Waltham release to be bundled with a DVD in March. The band are currently putting together the script for — yes, you heard right — Waltham the Movie. . . . Heart-smart punk-rockers LOST CITY ANGELS have reason to rejoice. They’ve just learned that Universal Records, which released their 2005 album Broken World on its punk imprint Stay Gold Records, has also picked up the option on a second album, which the band have begun recording. They plan to roll out some of the new tunes (and dodge detention) when they play Stoughton High School on January 20 and Club Deniro in Taunton on January 21. . . . Showing that they don’t plan to rest in 2006, either, CAVE IN launch a month-long European tour in Germany on February 1 with Hydrahead label mates Pelican before hitting Japan in late March. . . . Former members of GARRISON, the DISTANCE, and the JAZZ JUNE have formed a new Boston supergroup, DO YOU STILL HATE ME, which they describe as "Quicksand making out with indie rock." And though they’re still seeking a vocalist, you can hear just what that might sound like on three as-yet-untitled demos they’ve posted their MySpace page.
