News on Ho-Ag and a local Springsteen connection

HO-AG singer/guitarist Matt Parish is recuperating at home in Allston after being attacked April 22 in Oakland, California, during the local art-rock quintet’s national tour. Parish said he was jumped by seven teenagers while talking on his cellphone in front of a friend’s apartment. After demanding that he give them his phone, the assailants punched him, knocked him to the ground, and kicked him in the face several times, fracturing his jaw. Parish had surgery to insert a titanium plate, and his jaw will remain wired shut for several weeks. “I’ve never felt so lucky to have so many rad friends as I do right now,” he says via e-mail. “People have been really good to me.” The band cancelled the remainder of their tour, but Parish hopes to be playing local shows by July. Their album The Word from Pluto will be out in September on Hello Sir Records. “We were planning another tour for the fall because the CD’s going to be released then,” says Parish, “so now that work will probably get kicked up a notch to try to make up for the places we missed this time around.” . . . Local banjo player GREG LISZT has been tapped to join Bruce Springsteen’s backing band for the tour to support We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. When not holding down a stage with the Boss, Liszt plays in the Boston-based folk-rock band CROOKED STILL. Although Springsteen’s band members are being kept mum for now, Liszt is clearly thrilled about his new job. “What a dream come true!” he said via e-mail. . . . The LA garage punk quartet DARKER MY LOVE, who feature former Lyres and Tonsils guitarist Jared Everett and released their Summer Is Here EP on the Explosion’s Tarantulas Records, have signed with Dangerbird Records.
