Local cabaret-punk duo the DRESDEN DOLLS are unveiling a multimedia spectacular called “F#%k the Back Row” at the Brattle Theatre this Sunday (June 25). Set for select dates during the duo’s national tour with Panic! At the Disco this summer, the show will include short films made by fans, live cabaret performances by local artists in each town where the show is staged, and singer/pianist Amanda Palmer’s reinterpretations of film-themed songs. Palmer conceived the idea because the duo receive so many films made by fans who were inspired by their music. “There is a version of ‘Half Jack’ that is just gorgeous. It’s so mind-blowing to see the way people interpret the lyrics and music and run with them, make them their own.” Those who attend the special shows can expect a major to-do. “Any event I organize wants to be a complete party. I don’t like the idea of people feeling like they are supposed to come in and shut off. I’d rather they feel very conscious of the space and alive and aware of their surroundings and when the stage is lit up. An experience.” The national tour culminates with a set at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 5; it’ll be followed by several European festivals, including Leeds and Reading. . . . Worcester-based rock quintet OSB will perform for troops in Iraq from June 30 to July 6 as part of the Stars for Stripes Fourth of July celebrations. The band snagged the attention of the organization devoted to entertaining US troops abroad after headlining shows across the US for the past year in support of their self-released debut album, The Grey Area, and opening for Gavin DeGraw, American Hi-Fi, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Obviously, everyone has their opinions about war and politics, but the reason we are doing this is not to make a political statement,” says singer/guitarist Brendan Mahoney. “We’re doing it because there are men and women over there our age risking their lives every day. We’re just trying to show them that we’re thinking about them.” When OSB return, they’ll open for the Marshall Tucker Band at Indian Ranch in Webster on July 16, and their sophomore album, Transitions, will drop later this summer. . . . The Dresden Dolls have been crazy busy since the release, earlier this year, of Yes, Virginia (Roadrunner), and their autumn itinerary ensures they’ll be applying the pancake make-up well into winter.
