Off the Couch: Four-day weekend!

Punks for "Pop" at Fête
By CHRIS CONTI  |  November 26, 2013

Ohh Jeezus here comes Black FRIDAY (the 29th), but skip the Best Buy campout and shop hyper-local at What Cheer Antiques & Vintage (180 Angell St, 401.861.4244), as owners Chris Daltry (of the ’Mericans) and wife Jen host a holiday edition of Record Store Day. Then head to the Met for jam band pros Max Creek ($15, 401.729.1005), or hit the Spot and get funked up with Goosepimp Orchestra, Viral Sound, and The Heavy Pets (18+, 401.383.7133). A jam-packed SATURDAY (the 30th) includes The McGunks, Lucky United, Drunk Robb & the Shots, and Six Ten Connector at KC’s Tap ($5, 401.722.0150); the Tarbox Ramblers play Theatre 82 (in Cranston’s Rolfe Square); and the Parlour (401.383.5858) presents Gym Shorts, Us N Y’all, The YaBeautifuls, and Volcano Kings. Punk legends convene at Fête for the 1st Annual Pop Memorial Rock Show, celebrating the life of Chris “Pop” Popoloski who recently passed away. The Bastards, Neutral Nation, Bad Ass, and Holy Cow fill the bill; doors at 5pm with an $8 cover (all proceeds help out Pop’s family). On SUNDAY (the 1st), Neo Nouveau and will headline at Fête with Way Out and Able Thought (7 pm, $5 cover). Ahead to WEDNESDAY (the 4th), crank up some bluegrass with The Rank Strangers at the Grange (401.831.0600), while Jacob Haller (the Killdevils) joins Daniel Ouellette & the Shobijin at AS220 (401.831.9327). Heads up for next THURSDAY (the 5th) — do not sleep on Mr. MFN eXquire headlining at the Met, with local crew Reziztanze and many more. I caught eXquire open for 3rd Bass in Brooklyn earlier this year and it was fucking incredible. See you there!
