O’Keefe also hosts a weekly show on Brown University’s BSR radio, where he performs as tfo (he’ll visit Beat Research on January 15). And there’s always the AS220 art machine. “When I first started playing music, AS220 was at a smaller space. When I moved back from New York, they had expanded. I met another electronic-musician who was a resident artist, so I applied.”
The compound, complete with 11 artist residents, reaches all aspects of the local music scene, and O’Keefe takes full advantage. Upcoming Cozy releases include projects from Sage Francis trackmaster Joey Beats, an EP from punk-disco duo Mahi Mahi, and a Boston Bounce compilation from frequent Providence visitors DJ Flack and DJ C. “I’m trying to connect the different people who didn’t necessarily know each other and have them remix other people’s work.” O’Keefe also hopes to make money from licensing. “Recently I hooked up with a lawyer in New York, and he’ll shop all the stuff on my label for licensing, for commercials, TV shows, and films . . . and if bigger labels want to put our stuff on compilations . . . ” That’s something that wouldn’t pose any problems for O’Keefe or for Cozy Music.
