CHASING LEGACY, a pop/rock band with some emo tendencies, are desperately in search of a drummer. Their requirements aren’t very stringent: be 18, have your own equipment, and live relatively close to Portland. If you’re interested, emailchasinglegacy@hotmail.com. Legacy are fairly young, but have already recorded a five-song EP, The Silent Pages.
CHRISTOPHER TERET, the lone Portland resident of the NYC band COMPANY, is working on a solo record with CERBERUS SHOAL’s CALEB MULKERIN, and will be playing with Cerberus offshoots THREADS and DILLY DILLY, along with MICAH BLUE SMALDONE, at Acoustic Coffee on December 1. Also, look for another indie rock full-length from Company at the beginning of 2007, on the Brah Records label run by NYC band ONEIDA. As for Teret’s solo stuff, we’re pretty big fans of his take on the old-timey “Shady Grove.” It’s like the traditional version that never was.
A wide array of Portland bands are planning a tribute to open-mic king and all-around strange guy DAN KNUDSEN, who might be the most eclectic and intriguing songwriter hardly anybody’s ever heard of. January 19, at Acoustic Coffee, bands like DOMINIC AND THE LUCID, DEAD END ARMORY, LINE OF FORCE, GIRAFFE ATTACK, and MOSES ATWOOD are tentatively booked for what’s being called “Dan-apalooza.”
Be on the lookout for the Western Maine jam group GRISTLESTICK. Despite the fact that they hail from the middle of nowhere, they’ve just finished a 100-day tour that took them through Canada and to Alaska and back, and they’ve recently released their Sween Machine Records debut, Flesh Tunes. They’re a four-piece, featuring RUSS COPELIN, TOM STEVENS, LEIF DEVINE, and JAMES DOUCETTER on a variety of instruments each.
