1. Seeing live shows out of town: Juiceboxxx @ Riverwest film and video, Milwaukee, WI . The kid that will bring it all together jumping off a rack of David Lynch movies shouting "positive and tough." Wham City tour @ Redrum, Provi, RI. Dan Deacon rules and this was the most intense musical experience of my life. (Also, Ponytail!) Lavender Diamond @ Joe's Pub, NYC. Becky Starks voice is so beautiful it was hard to believe it was coming out of a human.
2. The Blow, “PARENTHESES”
3. Clipse, HELL HATH NO FURY (Startrak). Most thuggish record ever to have a cover like a muffin cookbook.
4. Thermals, THE BODY THE BLOOD THE MACHINE (Sub Pop).
5. Special Diplo section. Even though the set he played at the Bonde/CSS (awesome show) was the same one I've heard on a bunch of mix tapes, he put together a couple of real bangers this year: Plastic Little’s “Now I Holler” (best
Czekaj rip-off ever!) and MIA’s “XR2 Turbo.” (The lyrics are wack but that beat kills me every time.)
6. Planningtorock. The four songs I downloaded. (Just got this stuff last week but I can't stop listening, esp. the last 40 seconds of “I Wanna Bite Ya.”)

With the excpetion of Franklin & Elisabeth, your year-end reviewers are rubbish - just of bunch of pedantic twats who are more concerned with impressing each other with their "eclecticism" than they are trying to foist good music on the readers.

Doogie, if I post my top ten, will you cure me of my bad taste, too? Oh and please do give me the right answers for the next time I have to vote.

Yep, send your list. Mirth would be a good start to 2007.

I'm too tired to come with an appropriately eclectic batch right now. What's yours? Curious.

Yeah, those Pearl Jam, Black Crowes and Sonic Youth picks by Kielty are pretty deep underground. If anything I applaud him risking his "cool" credibility with those choices.

Not unlike Swedish, Tagalog, and Esperanto, music is a language, with its own conjugations and (lewdly) dangling participles.

What small, private lists like this remind us is that big, honking institutional lists are largely fictions, mirages of a consensus that no longer exists, if it ever really did in the first place.
