Since moving to Las Vegas, STEPHANIE DOUGHERTY has cut down on her vocal duties for Dropkick Murphys, but her new band are something of a Boston punk supergroup. STEPHANIE DOUGHERTY AND THE DEADLY SINS were born of her collaboration with Lost City Angels bassist DUGGAN D. last summer; they recorded three songs in August with MARC FLYNN of Big D and the Kids Table in August (you can stream them here). The line-up also features BILL BROWN of the recently defunct Crash and Burn. Brown and Duggan are writing songs for the group in Boston, with Damone drummer DUSTIN HENGST filling in on demos until a permanent drummer is found. Right now they’re sending songs via Internet to Dougherty in Vegas, where she’s lined up Ron Aston of the Transplants on bass. But she plans to record several songs with the Boston dudes at Ray of Hope Studios when she returns home to sing with DKM for their string of sold-out St. Paddy’s Day shows. . . . The DENTS just completed a mini West Coast tour that included playing DICKIE BARRETT’s Mighty Morning Show on Indie 103.1 FM in LA, as well as the BYO Punk Rock Bowling Tournament at Double Down, home to the infamous bacon martini. They’ll head out again in May with the GENTLEMEN, play some East Coast dates with the Black Halos, and hit the Stockage festival, which is organized by the Descendents, in Colorado this summer. The quartet also just recorded two songs with Ed Valauskas and Rafi Sofer at Q Division for a split with their friends Colorado’s Drag the River. They were mixed by Tom Polce; one will have vocals from Street Dogs singer (and, to bring it all home, former DKM singer) MIKE McCOLGAN. The Dents play this Saturday, February 11, at the Middle East with the BAGS, who will be celebrating the re-release of their long-out-of-print 1991 classic, Night of the Corn People (Stanton Park). The new version includes the original’s 12 songs and 22-minute opera, which were recorded in 1990 at Fort Apache South with Carl Plaster and remastered by Nick Zampiello of New Alliance East, as well as songs from a 45 released by Italian label Helter Skelter in 1991. During the show, which also features UNNATURAL AXE and WILD ZERO, the band’s original line-up will play old favorites and debut some new songs that they hope to record for a new full-length album this summer.
