PIGBOAT have posted a “new” tune on MySpace, “Ted Kennedy Dance Mix Radio,” which is actually the first-ever Pigboat tune, recorded in 2003. But there’s really new stuff in the works, too, as the band have lately been recording with premier club soundman WALLY WENZEL. You can also find a new tune from Pigboat called “I Could’ve Gotten You So Many Free Drinks” on the 7-inch compilation of local heavy rock the ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIMENT will be releasing soon.
That’s right, ENTERTAINMENT EXPERIMENT, run by Pigboat bassist ED PORTER, will drop Short Songs from Long Fellows in the not-too-distant future. Other than the sweet title, EE give you reasons from CONFUSATRON, SPORT, and COVERED IN BEES to buy the disc. Also, the Experiment report having a pilot completed for a Southern Maine music show called Underground Sound. We’re sure the “Sibilance” staff will be featured for pithy comments like those given by the C-list actors and comedians that populate VH1 programs.
TOO LATE THE HERO, which we’ve always hoped named themselves after the Michael Caine 1970 war flick, have announced a release date for the follow up to 2004’s well received self-titled debut EP. Is This Thing On?, recorded at Spin Studios in Queens, New York, with JOSH WILBUR, will hit the streets (and the ‘Net) March 6 and feature 11 new songs (“Faces of Death Was on the Syllabus” is a repeat), most of them endowed with the long and silly names TLTH have become known for. Our favorite is “Mike Caminiti Slipped Me a Roofie.” Buy the disc early by showing up to the release shindig at the Underground, in Bangor, March 2.
We’ve gotten word of music at that PORTLAND ARTIST’S CO-OP. ERIC SCHWAN, of the TREE BY LEAF-linked JET BLACK DRESS, reports a gig there February 23. We report it hard to take that space seriously as a venue, what with it having been the cult-like Smoothie King not all that long ago. Look for a release from Schwan in the near future.
Be on the lookout for D. GROSS, the newest old-timey roots guy to be awesome around here. He busts a mean harmonica over shuffling acoustic guitar and mixes Appalachia with Mississippi Delta just fine.
