“I wake up in the middle of the night and the reality of what happened hits me,” says BEATLEJUICE drummer Muzz. Of course, he’s talking about the suicide of singer BRAD DELP on March 9. Over 14 years, Beatlejuice “has grown into a family,” Muzz continues. “This just seems so unreal, too stunning. It’s such a shock. None of us saw this coming.” Muzz says he found solace among friends, but as a musician he was going “stir-crazy.” The idea of a concert came to mind. “Maybe the best thing we can do is get together and create a forum for everyone touched by Brad. So I contacted all the singers Brad had relationships with and wondered if they’d like to sing Beatles songs.” Charlie Farren, Mike Girard, and Brian Maes are among the friends/singers who have signed on to perform with Beatlejuice for “In My Life. . . . A Concert for Brad,” a two-night event at the Regent Theatre May 3 and 4. Both shows quickly sold out, and they’ll likely add another on May 2. . . . KRISTIN HERSH says that if “water” seems to be a prevailing theme on her new album, Learn To Sing like a Star, it’s no accident. Shortly after Katrina, a more localized flood destroyed the home she shares with her husband/manager, Billy O’Connell, and their kids in Ohio. Hersh comes to the Regent on April 21 with a drums-bass-violin-cello line-up. . . . The blues-rock duo SCISSORMEN are the latest to relocate from Boston to Nashville. They’re on a “Goodbye Yankees” tour, which guitarist Ted Drozdowski (a long-time Phoenix contributor) calls a “loud but graceful exit from New England.” They play the Lizard Lounge April 27. . . . JIM’S BIG EGO teams up with cult-horror-movie actor and radio “mystic” Andras Jones for an ongoing production at Jimmy Tingle’s Off Broadway called The Ego & the Oracle: A Spontaneous Musical Interactive Event. It will involve audience members asking questions, a spinning wheel of JBE song choices, a song played, and an interpretation of the song as an answer to the question. Whew. It starts April 27 through 29 and continues every Sunday through June 17.Email the author
