At the very least, she continues to offer a peek into her diary. “Hot,” an open love letter to Deryck, puts a kinky dance-beat backdrop under her slightly psychotic Stepford-wife admission that “I want to lock you up in my closet, when no one’s around. . . . Now you’re in and you can’t get out.” Then she turns tender. “You’re so fabulous,” she coos to her spiky-haired Romeo. “You’re so good to me, baby.” Of course, she still manages to sound as if she’d castrate her love if he ever dared cross her. Watch your back, Deryck. Avril’s not one to ignore her instincts.
Last month, Jane magazine grilled Avril about why she chose to wear a Vera Wang gown instead of a deconstructed pink tutu when she tied the knot. “I wanted to be like, ‘Oh, let’s totally have a rock ’n’ roll, goth wedding,’” Avril said. “But at the same time I was like, ‘I’ve been dreaming about my wedding day since I was a little girl. I have to wear the white dress.’ I wanted to be a princess, okay?” Yes, it is okay. Some people may even envy Avril’s ability to trust so completely in her own conceited visions, no matter how disingenuous she appears. The only honest confessions are the ones that come straight from the gut.
