U.N.I.T.Y.

By DAVID DAY  |  May 22, 2007

In addition to planning the Unity Fest, Edo. is wrapping up the Special Teamz debut for release in August, 4Peace will drop a full-length in September, and Edo. will be back in the studio working with Brooklyn MC MASTA ACE for a collaboration to drop at the end of the year. Right now, though, it’s about getting all of the local hip-hop scene on the same page. “I think it’s going to be great for the city. To show everyone that we do have unity here and that the hip-hop community is strong.” Doors open at 7 pm, and if each performer brings 30 people, the house will be packed. Circuits advises you to be early.

This Saturday, May 26, Axis gets further redefined as Boston’s alternative nightclub as the Hot Fucking Pink party welcomes two DJs from Nebraska’s finest synth-rock group, the Faint: Todd Fink and Jacob Thiel. “They’ve done a couple DJ tours before,” says Pink’s MICHAEL SAVANT (a/k/a GFA). “It’s a new thing for them to do after-parties. But both of them have DJed for quite a while. That’s one of the things that brought them together, actually.” In addition to making hot club jams, the two have remixed groups like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Joy Electric. “From what their agent told me and the set list I’ve seen,” Savant adds, “there’s an emphasis on electro and early electroclash.” Beginning immediately following the Faint show at Avalon next door, the after-party will feature resident DJs Savant and KNOWLTON WALSH — and that’s one hella bill. It’s free with a ticket stub from the show; otherwise, it’s $5 with RSVP to michaelsavant@yahoo.com.
