The blackstone is back
Super-dramatic trumpet fanfare here . . . Sound of scroll unfurling and a throat clearing. “Ladies and gentlemen, at last it’s official!” The Blackstone has, after months of delays, reopened in its new location, right over the Providence line (as in five blocks) in Pawtucket’s Hope Village (1005 Main Street). “The new location is more than we ever dreamed of,” says Marion LaFrancoise, a venue co-owner and proprietor. The Blackstone is now part of a larger complex full of small independent businesses, including Seven Stars Bakery, New Harvest Coffee Roasters, and others, which makes it a one-stop for the hip-ified.
“The fire department has put the Blackstone’s capacity at 560, which by unofficial count makes it the third-largest live music venue in the state after Lupo’s and the Ocean Mist,” Marion writes. There have also been upgrades to sound and lights, a full-service eatery, a coffee bar that becomes the stage bar at night, and several seating areas, each with a different feel: a gallery room, a raised seating area with couches, another area around the huge main bar, and some booths. There will also be a deck in the courtyard.
Marion and her husband John already have some shows booked, but there are a lot more live music slots to fill. Creative people unite: you now have a legitimate escape from the same old haunts. The Blackstone’s first show is on Friday, as LEAH CARLSON celebrates the release of her new CD, with MINKY STARSHINE AND THE NEW CARDINALS and C. CROWLEY also making merry. The Blackstone will host an open house on Saturday from 3 to 10 pm with BECKY CHACE & BRIAN MINISCE, LORI AMEY, CORINNE WAHLBERG, MIKE SAHAGIAN, COMIC BOOK SUPER HEROES, SPOGGA and THE JAZZ BASTARDS.
