The event is a part of the “New Sounds from Brazil” series. Hirsch explains, “It’s a country that, by its nature, came to be through so many different cultures. It’s a polyglot culture. It’s a collage culture. So Brazil definitely has a continuing cachet. Dolores is raw and experimental: he’s a musical explorer.” Dolores will spin in the midst of Aparelhagem (“Equipment”), his live band, who are an amalgam of urban and rural. “It’s a fairly large group with traditional Brazilian percussion,” Hirsch continues. “But it’s also electric guitars, and he’s at the center of it with the turntables. They put out a collage of everything, from breakbeats to traditional North Brazilian music to electronic to field recordings from street parties and everyday life.” Tickets for the July 11 show are $25.
